Benzoyl Peroxide-Free Acne Products

It is estimated that over 45 million people in the United States have acne, which primarily affects teens and young adults. In fact, 85% of those with acne are aged 15-24 years old. The majority of teens first notice their acne between the ages of 10 and 13, and it usually lasts for five to ten years and then goes away. However, acne can persist into one’s late twenties or thirties or even beyond. In fact, many women in their 40’s who complain that they have acne blemishes and wrinkles at the same time!

Acne is the term for plugged pores, also known as blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, and deeper cysts that occur primarily on the face, neck, and back. The causes of acne are linked to the hormonal changes that take place as young people mature from childhood to adolescence and puberty. The hormones also cause the sebaceous or oil glands of the skin to produce more sebum or oil. The hormones with the greatest effect on sebaceous glands are androgens (male hormones) which are present in females and males, but in higher amounts in males. Sebaceous glands are found together with a hair shaft in a unit called a sebaceous follicle. During puberty, the cells of the skin that line the follicle begin to shed more rapidly. In people who develop acne, cells shed and stick together more so than in people who do not develop acne. These sticky cells plug the opening of the follicle. Meanwhile, the oil glands continue to produce more oil and the follicle swells up. The mixture of oil and dead skin cells is a perfect environment for acne-causing bacteria to grow. The bacteria begin to multiply rapidly in the clogged hair follicle, and produce irritating substances that can cause inflammation. Sometimes the wall of the follicle bursts, spreading inflammation to the surrounding skin. Redness, swelling, and inflammation create nasty acne breakouts.

These formulas are all benzoyl peroxide-free and have been designed to clear existing acne blemishes, prevent new blemishes from forming, and reduce redness, irritation and excess surface oils. And some very exciting news-the new Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment reduces the appearance of the inevitable dark marks or “acne scars” that are left when acne clears up. I think you all know what I am referring to-the acne blemish is gone, but it takes a few more weeks for the dark spot to disappear. Now we have a new product exclusive to Arbonne, Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment, which works on those dark spots to help them disappear!

Step 1 is cleanse with the Clarifying Wash Acne Medication. This soap-free wash now has more botanicals to soothe the skin for gentle exfoliation. And it is in a new, easy-to-use tube which makes it ideal for use in the shower.
Step 2 is tone with the Clarifying Toner Acne Medication. This alcohol-free toner now contains 0.5% salicylic acid, the effective, clinically proven medicated treatment that is now in all Clear Advantage products. What is also new is a patent-pending, time-release technology that removes excess surface oils, gently exfoliates and reduces irritation and redness for a prolonged anti-acne effect. And more botanicals balance out the formula for a soothing, calming result.
Step 3 is control with the Clarifying Lotion Acne Medication. This new formulation contains an exclusive time-release technology to reduce redness and inflammation for a longer period of time. And the Clarifying Lotion clears the complexion and provides a shine-free, matte look.
Step 4 is spot treatment to target problem areas. Acne Spot Treatment is an on-the-go, high-performance acne treatment with 2% salicylic acid for the acne blemishes that need extra attention. And, I am very excited to say that the Acne Spot Treatment also reduces the dark marks left when acne clears. It contains time-release technology that works to reduce the appearance of the dark spots and acne all-day. Just apply it in the morning or before you go to bed, after you cleanse and tone and before you apply the lotion. Or you can take it with you for “on-the-spot” treatment during the day.
Clear Advantage contains salicylic acid, a proven acne medication. There may be some tingling at first, but this means that the medication is working and speeding up the exfoliation of the skin to clear up existing acne and prevent new acne from forming. Continue using the Clear Advantage regimen for the best results.
